One evening an old Cherokee Indian told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, ‘My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.’
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?’
The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you feed.’
Theyre all around us, affecting our lives in unseen ways, causing worry,
hesitation, confusion, anxiety, avoidance.
They bring us to our knees.
Fears control us in ways we never realize, unacknowledged and more powerful
because of their unknown workings.
Fears stop us from following our dreams, from taking risks, from pursuing
love, from seeking adventure, from speaking in public, from going into the
unknown, from starting a new venture, from reveling in discomfort. We
procrastinate, overeat, find distractions, because of fear. We are seized
with constant worry, from fear.
And yet, these fears are just clouds.
They float into our field of vision, unbidden and unwanted, like a dark
stormy cloud. We get caught in the rainshower and thunder, and feel that
this is our entire world. We immerse ourselves in this cloud, as if theres
nothing outside of it and it will never go away.
But the cloud will pass.
The cloud floats away, like anything else. Its nothing to run from. Its
just a passing cloud.
So watch the cloud of fear arise, acknowledge it, and watch it float away,
like any other thought. Enjoy the chill of the shadow and the wind as it
passes over you.
Then step into the sunshine of the present moment, beautiful and joyous now
that the cloud has passed.
In each moment, we are OK. Even when fear arises, we are OK. Learn to trust
in this OK-ness, the goodness of the present moment, the enough-ness of
you, right now.
See the fear pass, and see that youre still OK.
Once you develop this skill of watching the fear pass, and trusting in your
OK-ness and enough-ness, you are equipped to deal with life, and get up off
How to Change When You Feel Lost in Life
Sometimes in life we stop for a moment and realize that we don’t know what we are doing, why we are doing the things we are. You can suddenly realize that you don’t like your job, you don’t like to live in the city or you don’t like the way you act sometimes.
Who am I? What am I doing with my life? What should I do? These questions can be very scary at first, but they are a beginning of a fantastic and positive realization and change in your life. So if you are having these questions, don’t worry, you’re on the right track.
A very important thing is to know where to step from here. If you don’t like something in your life or in yourself then change it. You hate your job? Quit. Doing something you don’t like every day is not a life you should live. Follow your heart and spend your days doing what makes you happy. There is nothing more important in life than doing things that make you happy. It can be whatever is in your heart - the opinions of others doesn’t matter. Forget what your parents told you, forget what is expected of you. It is your life and you know best what you want to do. Don’t aim for success, aim for happiness and success will follow. Always follow your heart and it will lead you to happiness.
You don’t really know who you are or what you should do? That is perfectly fine too, don’t worry. The most important thing is to know what you are not. You don’t like something you’re doing in your life? Than simply don’t do it anymore. Our heart always tells us if we shouldn’t be doing something, but we can be very persistent in not listening to it. Listen. And stop doing what doesn’t come from your heart. This can be a long process - figuring out who you are, what you like doing and what kind of person you are. And it can be very scary. If you let go of everything you are not, you can feel “empty” inside. But always remember that you are not. You are filled with amazing things and if you are able to empty yourself from the things you are not, the things you are will come to the surface soon enough. And finding your true self and living as the person you were meant to be will be the greatest feeling.
If you don’t like the person you are, then take a long look at yourself. Every day, think about your day and the way you acted. Pinpoint the situations where you didn’t like your actions and see beneath them, see what was truly inside you that made you act that way. Fear? Anger? Hate? Negative emotions are to blame when we act in a way we don’t want to. So study your emotions, study your thoughts, and let them go. Let go of all the negative emotions and thoughts inside of you, because the only one you are hurting with them is yourself. Practice love, kindness and selflessness. You will become the person you want to be. And please don’t be hard on yourself. Accept yourself. Love yourself. You recognized a problem within yourself and that makes you an awesome human being.
